COMMUNITIES
Martin Taylor's Freternity
In the Freternity, you'll find a treasure trove of resources with hundreds of video lessons, notation, and backing tracks, all created to take your playing to the next level. This online community is a place where we can learn, connect, and grow together, because the Freternity is about more than jazz guitar lesson content, itâs about being part of a global community of players who are passionate about jazz guitar.
Iâve organized the Freternity into the following sections of video lessons.
WEEKLY LESSONS
Each month youâll learn a new tune based on a jazz standard or hidden gem. In the Weekly Lessons, I upload a new series of video lessons aimed at helping you learn and create your own version. For example in week one weâll cover chord sequence, chord voicings, chord variations, chord movements, and rhythmic feel. In week two weâll go in-depth on Melody, Phrasing, Inflections, Fretboard Positions, Alternative Fingering, Variations and Improvisations. Then in week three we put it all together. In the case of those tunes that lend themselves to a solo version youâll learn how to go beyond chord melody, adding moving lines and ways to create your own arrangements.
Meanwhile for those tunes that work best in a band or small group context Iâll teach you how to add comping, fills and solos. At the end of week three I set an optional assignment where, if youâd like, you can upload a video of you playing the tune of the month for myself and the other members of the community to watch.
In the fourth and final week youâll be able to join myself and other Freternity members online when I host a monthly live âAsk Me Anythingâ Q&A session to answer any questions you may have. This is also an opportunity for you to perform your version of the tune for the other members live in a safe and supportive environment of fellow guitarists.
MONTHLY JAM CLUB
Join Martin and other Freternity members from around the world at the live 'Jam Club' each month. At these monthly jam sessions (on Zoom) Martin covers a new song and through jamming together online you build up your repertoire, skills, as well as have some fun hanging out.
ON-DEMAND COURSES
In the Walking Bass Guitar course, there are lessons to help you play walking basslines on guitar and combine them with rock solid rhythm guitar chords.
In the Jazz Phraseology course, youâll learn twelve etudes to help you play complete guitar solos on jazz standards. This way you can progress from playing âjust licksâ to developing long, meaningful solos that tell a story.
The Fingerstyle Basics course introduces you to the essential techniques required to play fingerstyle guitar while the Scales course will help you break out chord shapes to become a more expressive player.
And that's just the start...inside Martin Taylor's Freternity you'll also find bonus courses on scales, chords, melodies, arranging, improvisation, performance skills, as well as in-depth interviews with other guitar greats.
